Until the book goes paperback…

I walked up to the cashier lady at the bookstore and handed her the book.

“$28.47,” she said immediately before scanning the barcode.

“Wow, you know the price plus tax right off the top of your head, huh?”

“After selling the 300th copy it’s branded into my brain.”

“I guess that’s better than a lighting bolt.”

“Here’s your receipt, sir.”

Things learned in Minneapolis

gary.jpg

I always thought Gary Louris of the Jayhawks was an unusual looking man. However in my two nights in the Twin Cities I saw about 5 dudes who looked just like him. Including a douchey bass player in a jazz-funk band who kept yelling “Take it to the bridge” and “Not John Hancock, Herbie Hancock!” into the microphone.

The skyways that link all of the buildings downtown are just as useful in staying cool in the summer as they are for staying warm in the winter. And if you’re foolishly walking on the sidewalk and you’re wondering where all the stores are…they’re in the skyways. Well insulated commerce centers.

Folks here are very good at queuing. All the bus stops had very orderly lines of people waiting to get on. The line at the bar last night was similarly orderly…though the payout at the end was much bigger. One of my coworkers attributes this to the Scandinavian influence. He said another result of this influence is that everyone is very passive aggressive. So I guess while the lines are orderly everyone is quietly seething inside about waiting on them.

Zombies Crying out for Brains

E
In the twilight glow I hear them
B7                             E
Zombies crying out for brains
E
when we kissed goodbye and parted
B7                         E
I knew that we’d never meet again.

A
Blood is flowing like a river
E                                  B7
Corpses walking o’er the plains
E
and in my last hours I’ll remember
B7                            E
Zombies crying out for brains

Solo

A
The dead shall rise and walk the earth
E                                B7
When in hell no room remains
E
in a land with no hope dawning
B7                             E
Zombies crying out for brains

Solo

A
Aim for the head my darling
E                         B7
and try not to go insane
E
that bite there will get infected
B7                             E
Zombies crying out for brains
