Recipe for a good day

The other week Sammi and I went to a birthday party for some doctor friends of ours.  I got to talking with an older doctor gentleman at the party who claimed, among a great many other things, that he had figured the recipe for making a good day.

Because, he said, his standards were set fairly low, any of the following could happen during a day and make it a good day:

  1. Learn something new.
  2. Eat a great meal.
  3. Get a really, really good nights sleep.
  4. Have a really satisfying bowel movement.

And there were a lot more, but I can’t remember them all.  Regardless they were all along the same lines.  Simple things that could make a day good.

Well, this morning as I was taking the trash cans back in from the street I saw that someone had left what must have been a very, very satisfying bowel movement along the side of our house and I learned something new in that it takes about 15 goddamn minutes with a hose to  spray someone’s shit off of my driveway, onto the sidewalk and into the gutter.

I’ll have to explore the notion with my new doctor friend that everything that can make you have a good day will ruin someone else’s day down the line.
